Hospital Bag!

Well our bags are packed and we are ready when ever this little guy is! It's 38 weeks and I've changed what I've packed about 20 times, but I think I've nailed it at this point. We only live like 15 mins from the actual hospital and once little man is born Nick can always come back home and get what we need if anything.

I only planned for like 3 days at the most, keep in mind EVERY hospital is different with what they will and won't supply you with, especially dependent on insurance too. So ALWAYS check with your OB and hospital prior.

So first up let's talk baby items. My hospital provides the following:

Diapers, t-shirt, blankets, hat, socks, pacifier, swaddles, and formula. Almost everything you need for a baby to go home with.

What i'm bringing.

Clothes:
2-3 Newborn outfits
2-3 --0-3 outfits
Only because we don't know how big he will be and what he will and won't fit into.

Accessories:
2-3 swaddles
2 pairs of socks
Newborn and size 1 diapers---mostly for the ride home

Just in case on that 15 minute ride home he decides to have a blowout of some sort...you never know! lol

The announcement board for pictures, boppy pillow so the lactation consultant can help me and instruct me on how to use it, and the easy to use swaddle just in case I can't figure out the swaddle blanket.

They also instructed to basically bring an empty diaper bag because they send you home with stuff.
The last thing we are bringing for little man is his Cordblood kit which I will link below. I plan to do another blog post just regarding the cordblood kit, the experience and why we chose to do it.

But if you are having your baby soon and want more information, please message me and I can fill you in and also give you a contact to talk to to get more info.

This is the website if you are looking for more information.

Next up....my stuff.

Recommended:
Toiletries, bras (nursing if breastfeeding), nightgowns 2-3, robes, slippers, underwear, camera, focal point, notepad, pen, things for entertainment, sour suckers, toothbrush, hair accessories, lip balm, change for vending machines, pillows, hand fan, socks, music, mist bottle, and infant car seat.

What I'm actually bringing:

Accessories:
Hair brush, deodarant, things to shower with, minimal makeup for pictures and to go home with
Hair ties, bobbie pins, and head bands, lotion, dry shampoo. They have small towels typically so if you want an actual bath towel you can bring your own. I'm going to bring our own toothbrush and toothpaste BUT if you are in a rush and forget EVERYTHING. They have anything you would need to overnight stay in a hospital. This is just stuff I want to bring but DONT NEED IT.

Makeup wipes, floss, chapstick and lotion. These are all things I just normally travel with that are easily available.

Clothing:

Alrighty so, full disclaimer, delivery is not glamorous...I know this not because I have given birth but I have taken care of mothers pre, during and post partum. Personally, I don't want to get my clothes gross
or ruined so i'm bringing the bare minimum used clothing. Also I plan on wearing their gowns
and not wearing a bra since I plan to breastfeed.

Sleeping:
Robe, gown, night mask and ear plugs.
Night mask because nurses typically come in and out of your room and if your trying to nap during the day while little is napping it's helpful. Also ear plugs for the same reason, hospitals are NEVER quite. Also bringing slippers and shower shoes. ALWAYS bring shower shoes! Just saying.

Home outfits:
I'm bringing two because I don't know how I will feel when going home since i'll be wearing a diaper more than likely I feel like the leggings might give me the support but the dress might be more comfortable. They typically recommend bringing an outfit to go home in that you could fit in while pregnant. Loose and comfortable. Also bringing sweater and a tank top.

Postpartum & Breastfeeding:

Always Adult diapers                   Postpartum Support Bands                      Nursing bra's

These are the diapers I'm going to bring, you don't NEED them they will provide mesh underwear and a pad, but I don't like pads so I feel like these would be more comfortable. I'm also bringing the postpartum support bands, these can help promote uterine contractions after having baby, also helps with back support, you can use them after vaginal or c-section and we never know whats going to happen so I like to be prepared.
Also bringing nursing bra's these were highly rated on amazon and actually are super comfortable, not the sexiest of course but like I said this is not a glamorous adventure.

These are all things I'm bringing just to be educated on when to use and how to use. I've never breastfed and during school you don't really learn that much so I will definately be requesting some advice from my lactation consultant. Most hospitals have lactation consultants either on call or in house. Sometimes regardless it's very helpful to get advice from them whether you plan to breastfeed or not.
I'm bringing nipple shields, nipple cream and breast pads. Just to get educated on how and when to use. Typically they will provide you with these as well if needed.  My hospital will also be providing things for postpartum c-section and vaginal care...depending on what happens!

Another thing I'm bring is the haakaa. I plan on breastfeeding like I've said but I'm not sure what my milk supply is going to be like. Typically it doesn't come in for 3-4 days after birth but the haakaa is a wonderful item because while you are feeding on one breast the haakaa can catch let down. Also, the lactation consultant can help me understand when and how to put it on.

Last few items:

This came highly recommended! It's a portable fan which we will definately use while in Florida regardless! You can attach it to anything you want which is super nice. Also bringing phone and watch chargers, as well as one laptop to watch movies on and listen to music. We have a verizon hotspot too just in case the internet doesn't work in the hospital...which is pretty common.
They also say to bring a focal point, I'm bringing an ultrasound picture of little man for my focal point. We are also bringing our infant car seat as well.

We got the doona. I plan on traveling with little man alot once he gets here because I have to go back to Michigan for the military and this is just easier to travel with. I'll make another post on what was on my registry as well. This one is quite expensive but it's convenient.

Alrighty guys I think this post is long enough! I'm not including Nick's stuff on this post but basically, snacks, cash for vending machines, toiletries and changes of clothes. He is a minamilist and doesn't require alot but whatever will make your partner more comfortable is what you should bring. Hope this helps to all you new soon to be mama's! Please let me know if you recommend anything else or if you have any questions!!

XOXO
